Zekret meets expectations

Favourite for the Prix de Saint-Désir (Unpublished, 1,600m), Zekret (Zarak) seemed to have some assets in his game. The first being certainly his origins, which seemed to give him a great aptitude for the heavy ground, measured at 5/5. Then, when we observed the eight foals in the presentation circle, the Al Shaqab Racing representative stood out, showing a lot of confidence and an interesting physique. And on the track, the visual impression was concretized.

Zekret in Deauville (APRH)

The first two and the others

Placed in third thickness by Alexis Pouchin, Zekret appeared relaxed, which allowed him to breathe well. The event was not rhythmic and the colt took little time before finding his action in the final phase. But 200m from the finish, once paced by his jockey, he was able to accelerate to win by a length in front of Aminaco (Lope de Vega), who traced an interesting straight line at the rope. It would be necessary to wait five and a half lengths to find Rosapenna (Hello Zoumzain) in third place.

An interesting 3 years

Rupert Pritchard Gordon, Al Shaqab's racing manager in France, told us: "The Al Shaqab team decided to buy him a year ago from Arqana. He was a nice yearling with size. I went to see him at Mr Fabre's a week ago and I found that he had gained a lot of strength. We hope that this lot will be interesting. Zekret has everything to improve with age, his dam being by Monsun. He should make an interesting 3yo. For the moment, he has done what we asked of him. A big thank you and a big congratulations to the Jeffroy family who bred him."

A good German family

Bred by the Jeffroy family, Zekret is a son of Zarak (Dubawi), a stallion from the Aga Khan Studs, and Anjella (Monsun), winner of a race in Germany and third in the Herzog von Ratibor-Rennen (Gr3). Presented in the Arqana ring in December 2021 by the Cercy stud farm, the broodmare was bought for €45,000 by the Castillon stable. Zekret was also bought at the sales. Presented by his breeders, he won over the Al Shaqab teams who signed the voucher for €170,000. He is the sixth winning product of his dam after Aracacha (Teofilo), winner of a claimer over 1,650m, Amangiri (Zamindar), winner of a handicap over 2,100m, Aramhes (Kendargent), who won three events over 2,000m and 2,100m and is offered in 42 of value and Sehmara (Bated Breath), winner of two handicaps in the provinces. Finally, the best product of the broodmare is Stable Genius (Siyouni), third in the Prix la Force (Gr3) and the Prix de Suresnes (L) before being exported to Japan. At stud, Anjella has a yearling and a foal by Magic Dream (Saint des Saints).

Second dam Attilia (Tiger Hill) won two Listeds in Germany and she gave Ambria (Monsun), winner of the Preis des Union Gestüt (L), in Germany. She is also the strain of Gr1 winner Amarette (Monsun).
