Konada (Toronado) begins the year 2025 as she ended the previous one: with a pleasant success on the sand. Representing the Friedrider stable and Gérard Augustin-Normand, the 3-year-old filly had already won the Prix Pierre Massot (Class 2) at Marseille-Vivaux at the beginning of December after failing to reach the podium in the Prix Delahante (L). On the Pau PSF on Tuesday, she only confirmed the good impression left last year.
A bad start but obvious resources
Despite a poor start, Konada showed great brilliance at the start of the race, which prompted her jockey to quickly bring her into the leading group. With obvious resources in the final bend, the future winner was moved back in progression to start the straight before quickly taking the measure of Ghawar (Le Havre). After briefly giving the illusion of success, the latter had to settle for second place, three-quarters of a length behind the winner. The Black Sky (Al Wukair) completed the podium, three-quarters of a length behind Ghawar.
She will try a Class 1
Trainer of the winner, Jérôme Reynier told us: "Konada had this Class 2 on the programme after the Class 2 that she won at Marseille-Vivaux last month. So we seized the opportunity, taking her here with Dancing Queen, who ran on Sunday at Pau. We are very pleased with her victory. The filly is stringing together good performances and she should be at the start of a Class 1 at Chantilly next month. The timing is perfect, a month away, in similar conditions of distance, rail and ground. We will see if she takes a new step. One thing is certain, she is very promising since she always wins with little margin but a lot of reserves. She does not give herself completely, saves herself a lot, which bodes well for the rest of her career..."
The Luminate Strain
Bred by the Castillon stable, Khalifa Mohammed Al Attiyah and Cyril Tricaud, Konada is a daughter of Toronado (High Chaparnal), a stallion stationed at Swettenham Stud in Australia, and the unraced Kookyluna (Épaulette). The mare has a yearling by Texas (Wootton Bassett).
For black type, you have to look to the third dam, Kalandara (Rainbow Quest), who gave birth to Luminate (Lawman), winner of the Prix Pénélope and de Condé (Grs3). As for the fourth dam, Kalamba (Green Dancer), she produced Oriental Magic (Désert Prince), winner of the Daily Record Scottish Derby (Gr2) at Ayr.
